Gulf heritage.

One passion for the ocean.

Hello, my name is Trent Carmichael. I was born in Chattanooga, TN, and raised in Navarre, Florida, where I’ve spent my entire life near the Gulf Coast. My father served in the Air Force and met my mother while stationed in the Philippines, bringing together two cultures that shaped my upbringing.

Growing up by the water, I developed a deep love for the outdoors—especially fishing, surfing, and spending time at the beach. These experiences naturally drew me toward Gyotaku. What started as curiosity quickly became a personal passion and a meaningful way to blend my love of nature with creative expression.

Through Gyotaku, I’ve found a way to preserve the beauty of the ocean and honor the life and detail of each fish I catch. It’s more than art to me—it’s a connection to the water, my heritage, and the peaceful rhythm of coastal life.
