What is Gyotaku?

Gyotaku (from the Japanese gyo for fish and taku for rubbing) is the traditional Japanese art of fish printing. Originating in the mid-1800s as a way for fishermen to accurately record the exact size and species of their prized catches, it involves applying ink directly to a freshly caught specimen and pressing it onto traditional rice paper or fabric
Do you use real fish?

Yes, every print is made from a real fish caught in the Gulf of Mexico. We honor the catch by preserving its beauty through this ancient art form, ensuring no part of the fish goes to waste. We use non-toxic paint.
