Art of the Catch
Gyotaku (gyo = fish, taku = rubbing) is a traditional Japanese fish-printing art from the mid-1800s. Fishermen inked fresh catches and pressed them onto rice paper or fabric to record species and size. The prints preserve scales, fins, and contours with photographic realism, turning records into striking artworks.

THE CATCH
We source fresh, locally caught fish from the Gulf of Mexico, ensuring every specimen is handled with the respect it deserves.

INK APPLICATION
Using non-toxic acrylic paint, we carefully coat the fish to capture the intricate textures of scales, fins, and gills.

Hand-pressed onto premium fabric, the fish leaves a permanent, detailed record of its unique form.
